INNOVATIONS IN STRATEGIES

Working with human being and trying to bring a reform among them more so in terms of their thinking, outlook and behavior is indeed a very complex and difficult task. Therefore, it is natural that we have to evolve and use different strategies and techniques in order to achieve success in the mission. As such HCHW has been very instrumental in evolving a number of strategies from time to time as per the need and requirements and few of those are highlighted below.

Repatriation
HCHW has been very successful in counseling and motivating and children to go back to their families and thus get accepted by them. Repatriation involves constant efforts of street educators who accompany the child to their home wherever it may be in India. It also involves persistent counseling, motivation of street educator to both children and parents.

Social Developments
HCHW also initiated social development activities in the conscious and continued process of socialization of children on streets. The centers will organize regular weekly meetings with the children in order to create an opportunity where children can express their feelings, problems, difficulties, suggestions, recommendations and thereby actively participate in all the development programmers.

It celebrates all the international, national and religious festivals in order to bring a sense of belongingness among the children and there by create a harmonious relationship among all the children. The birthdays of children are celebrate in the center. In case, if the child does not remember his birthday then a particular date will be attached for the celebration with such children. Once in four months, picnics, outings, exposure visits are organized in order to provide an opportunity for children to see, enjoy and experience on par with other normal children. It will also organize social interaction programmes with other groups of school children, schoolteachers, police personnel, paramedical staff, general public, friends and well wishes of HCHW in order to create an awareness and bring about attitudinal change.

Promotion of Self Help Groups
Promotion of SHG considered to be the first step in order to work with people towards their development. HCHW look at this work as a strategy towards attaining the holistic development of people and area than a mera savings and credit program. HCHW firmly believes that Savings and Credit Management is one of sub activities of SHG’s but not the whole and sole of it.

Network as Strategy
HCHW firmly believes that knowledge sharing is knowledge gaining. Further, it also feels that networking with like minded NGO's will help in strengthening its efforts and cause in a larger scale. Hence, HCHW has used Networking of NGO's as a means of exploring new ideas and initiative with collective brainstorming.

HCHW looks at coming together of NGO's and networking as a strength for undertaking advocacy issues in a larger policy context. This network will address the rural – urban linkages to the problem to the street children and work towards arresting flow of children from rural areas to urban cities. Child Rights and child labour will be the other two major focus areas of this network. HCHW believes that these issues are interlinked to each other and needs to be addressed collectively.

Children’s Carnival Serving for Mobilizing Local Resources
Children’s Carnival helped HCHW immensely in promoting the cause of child development among the social circles. Infact, it is totally managed and conducted by the resources mobilized from various institutions, industries, business establishments and individual donors. Today Carnival serves as a major fund raising activity of HCHW.
