INNOVATION IN MOBILIZING SUPPORT OF CIVIL SOCIETY
 


Mobilizing local resources has been the strength of HCHW right from its inception. HCHW could sustain its work for almost three years without any financial support from Government or Donor Organizations. Although, it is a very rare kind of combinations, HCHW is equally equipped with skills in fundraising as that of carrying out its projects. Infact, mobilization of local resources is infact a regular and ongoing programme of HCHW as any other programmes. Over the years, HCHW has evolved a number of innovative mechanisms to mobilize the local resources.

In order to carryout fundraising programmes successfully, HCHW has been consciously put efforts towards establishing the credibility of the organization, accountability as well as communicating the work o the organization. A lot of efforts goes behind making fundraising campaigns successful. The success of HCHW is quire evident that one of the Child Development Center and an annual event Children’s Carnival are totally managed with the support of resource mobilized from different quarters of society.

Mr. Rafiuddin while working as a part time lecturer in College of Social Work has really served as a major source of income for running the Shelter Home in the initial years. The team of HCHW have really struggled a lot in raising the money for maintenance of Home. It was like day-to-day struggle trying to raise money today for the tomorrow’s expenses.

An Evening With Street Children
HCHW has organized its first ever Fund Raising Event “An evening with Street Children” in 1995 with support of Hotel Taj Residency (now known as Hotel Taj Banjara). A colorful musical extravaganza was the highlight of the programme.

Musical Nite
As part of continuous efforts in mobilizing the local resource, HCHW has organized a Musical Nite presented by the troupe headed by r. Samson Mukesh, a well known singer in Hyderabad.

PC Sorcar Magic Show
During the year 1998, there was a magic show to be held in the city under the aegis of the world famous magician PC Sorcar Jr. HCHW approached Mr. PC Sorcar and explained him the cause and concern of HCHW. He was impressed very much with the noble cause of HCHW and happily agreed to give the premier show in ”Aid of Street Children”. Indeed, HCHW was able to raise good amount of money for its cause through this charity premier show.


Solidarity Rally
During the year 1999, Kargil war broke and to support the efforts of Indian soldiers in the war. HCHW has organized a solidarity rally involving children living under the care of HCHW and raised donation worth Rs.16,622 which includes the contribution of HCHW staff and children from Shelter Home to support the Kargil Fund constituted by Central Government. This contribution was handed over to the then Collector and District Magistrate, Hyderabad.

Souvenir
The Souvenir was planned to mobilize local resources in the form of space donations. It was a remarkable achievement to mobilize One Lakh of rupees through space donation in Souvenir. The souvenir was released on 2nd June 1999. In 2003, another similar effort is initiated with a target to raise Rs.2,00,000.

Paper Donation Scheme
Newspaper Donation Scheme is one of the unique donation schemes of HCHW. Through this programme HCHW collects old newspapers, magazines, journals from households, business houses, hotels and so on. The Donors can donate old newspapers on a fortnightly, monthly, bi-monthly or quarterly basis by specifying day/time in a moth, as per their convenience for the collection of newspapers from them.

This year a total of 598 paper donors are registered. The yearly report of the total quantity of newspapers, magazines collected from each donor and the amount of money earned through it will sent to the respective donors. Donors who make the contribution or regular basis are honored as “Friend of Children”. This Paper Donation Scheme is being carried out with a computerized software package entitled “PDS Soft”.

Sponsorships
HCHW is successful in mobilizing the local resources from various quarters of society in terms of getting sponsorships for food expenses, education, medical health camps, organizing picnics and outing and so on. The estimated total sponsorship is Rs.10000/- per annum per child.

Corporate Support
The Hotel Taj Residency (presently known as Hotel Taj Banjara) came forward to provide food everyday both for the lunch and dinner. They were the first corporate group to have come forward and infact HCHW started the first Shelter Home with their commitment for support.

HCHW was successful in getting the support for its initiatives and programmes from corporate and business houses. Srremitra Real Estate has been supporting Children’s Carnival in providing all the gifts for various competitions conducted during Children’s Carnival.

CMC Limited, ITC Bhadrachalam, ITC Grand Kakatiya Sheraton Towers, ADP Wilco, Wipro, State Bank of India, Tata Tele Services Ltd., Kabsons Industries, Intelli Group Asia Pvt. Ltd., Lucent Technologies etc., are to name a few who are supporting HCHW in various manners.
